Gallery Month

Hi everyone, I am Mónica, the CV of the Resources and Stock Images Gallery. It is a very big gallery and one can get lost, especially in some sub galleries. Let me try to bring some clarity.

What are resources & what are stock images?

In the widest possible sense, a resource is content that provides helpful tools or add-ons to supplement your artwork. DeviantArt Resources can be very varied, they can be components within computer software, templates for artisan crafts or any kind of tutorials.
Stock Images are photographs licensed for private and/or commercial use.

You can have a closer look here:   FAQ #217: What are "Stock and Resources" and can I use them in my submissions?

The provider of a resource must be the copyright owner or have a permission to offer it for use. That means, you are not allowed to offer resources or stock taken from the Internet/Google. That also applies for celebrities.
More articles concerning copyright can be found here:
Copyright Policy

WHAT IS CREATIVE COMMONS?

As the gallery is very big it is impossible to cover every sub gallery with an extensive explanation. I'll introduce you to the gallery in two parts, otherwise my article would become too long. The first part covers the stock images and textures, the second part everything else.

Stock Images

The stock images gallery is the biggest gallery within the resources gallery, with most submissions per day. DeviantArt even has its own submission guidelines for stock, concerning quality, size and usefulness. You can read them here:
FAQ #809: What are DeviantArt's stock image guidelines?

Two important points are
  1. Copyright issues mentioned above, more information here:
  2. No sexually explicit imagery. You can read more about this topic here:

Have you experienced that sometimes, a stock photo could fit in more than one category? How to choose the correct one?
An example is a tree in a beautiful landscape; does it belong to plants or to nature? For the right category you have to decide where the main focus is, what do you want to offer, the tree or the whole landscape? It should become clear as soon you have decided which one is more useful :aww:

Hi, I've been looking for guidelines to give people about how to credit stock etc. used in their Photomanipulation deviation, do you know if there is one?

These kind of links only bring me to a DA page with different headers and I haven't found in the subcategories what I'm looking for
